Shaka is published by Jim Laurie, an individual based in France. By installing or using the app you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, do not use the app.
Shaka displays wind spots, forecasts and wind-station readings, records your sessions, and lets you set condition alerts. The app is provided free of charge, as is, and may change or stop at any time.
Forecasts are forecasts. Wind, wave and tide data come from third-party sources and can be wrong, late or missing. Alerts can fail to trigger. The live-sharing link and the sea-rescue shortcut are conveniences, not a safety service: they depend on your phone, its battery and network coverage. You alone decide whether and where to go on the water. Always check official forecasts and warnings, tell someone your plans, and never rely on the app for your safety.
You can use the app without an account, within limits. Creating an account requires a valid email address. Keep your password private; you are responsible for what happens under your account. You can delete your account at any time from the account screen.
Spots you create are reviewed and, once approved, shown to all users. By submitting a spot you allow us to publish its name and position, keep it available to the community even after you delete your account, and merge it with an existing spot if it duplicates one. Do not submit spots on private property, protected areas, or places where access or sailing is not allowed, and do not use names that are offensive or misleading. We may edit, reject or remove any spot.
Do not attempt to break, overload or reverse-engineer the app or its servers, to access other users’ data, or to use the app for anything illegal. We may suspend accounts that do.
The app, its name, logo and design belong to the publisher. Your sessions and tracks remain yours; you grant us the right to store and process them to run the service. Forecast and map data belong to their respective providers.
To the extent permitted by law, the publisher is not liable for any damage, injury or loss arising from your use of the app, from inaccurate data, or from the app being unavailable. Nothing here limits liability that cannot be limited under French law.
We may update these terms; continued use after an update means you accept the new version. These terms are governed by French law, and disputes are subject to the French courts.
